Julie Lightburn’s “View points” is the new exhibition showing at village gallery, Colliergate, York.
York artist Julie Lightburn is known for her detailed paintings of Yorkshire landscapes - heather clad hills, distant dales, sandy beaches, secret gardens and city corners.
Julie studied 3D Design and Craft at York Technical College, followed by Visual Information Design at Sunderland Polytechnic, specialising in model making. For over thirty years she worked for York Modelmaking, making architectural models and managing the everyday running of the business. In 2017 she acquired the business, which now specialises in providing a bespoke laser cutting service.
Julie enjoyed art classes at school and spent much of her time as a child “making things”. But it was twenty five years after leaving school before she finally took up painting!
Self taught, but with a great deal of experience in colour mixing and observational skills as a model maker, it was only a short time before Julie started exhibiting and selling her work.
Her representational style of painting is often regarded as photographic in style, but with an artistic eye she is able to capture the visual splendour of the natural and manmade landscapes that inspire her, creating beautiful compositions that bring joy to all those who own a piece of her work.
Julie’s exhibition opens at village gallery York on Tuesday 8th March 2022, and it runs until Saturday 23rd April.
