Katherine only uses her phone camera to take her photos, and apart from occasional cropping, and selecting which filter to use, there is no other manipulation or photoshopping of the images.Katherine’s preference is to photograph in black and white because she finds the result more timeless than using colour. From our perspective though, in addition to this we see that she has a seemingly natural talent and eye for composition, and she manages to convey a deep feeling of peace, even when documenting the floods in York that happen all too regularly.

Kit Hemsley

Kit creates forms influenced by a childhood on the coast near Whitby and also by the clay itself. Her work falls into two distinct ranges at the moment and reflects the clay she is using. Kit’s Parian and porcelain work mirrors coastal textures, colours and forms. Clay coloured with oxides, stains and underglazes is used to create movement in her pieces. Natural materials such as shells, fossils and coral are used to mark some of her work.
