Dutch silver snuff box, featuring a cast scene of two maidens carrying baskets to the lid, and a half repousse floral border to the base. The box carries several marks: There is a sword mark on the inside that would indicate .833 grade silver. This mark was in use c1906-53. Alongside the sword is an oval with what looks like '<anchor>B2', which we have not been able to interpret further (yet) … the 'B' could be the date letter for 1911? In the lid picture there is the maker's mark 'HH', which we believe is that of Herbert Hooijkaas of Schoonhoven. This mark was in use c1906-24. The box is 5.8 cm (2.3') wide by 4.8 cm (1.9'), and is 1.8 cm (.7') deep. It weighs 31 grams. All measurements are approximate. The snuff box is in very good condition. The lid closes with a click and holds fast. There are some shallow depressions to the base and light surface scratching can be seen. Please study all photos as these form an important part of the description.
