Anne has been painting professionally since graduating in 1974. Her work reflects her interest in perceptual shifts between subject areas and between representation and abstraction. She uses a linear framework to pull the viewer into the picture space and to provide changing options for a visual journey. A sense of place remains important and this is achieved by drawing and observation on site.
Anne studied at Lincoln College of Art and Bath Academy of Art, Corsham, specializing in Fine Art, Etching, and Visual Perception.
Since graduating she has taught in both secondary and adult education and continues to mentor local art groups. In 1975 she established a small gallery in Whitby with husband and fellow artist Paul Blackwell, then moving on to open The Grosmont Gallery. Selling the gallery in 1996 enabled a move to a country property near Aislaby, just outside Whitby. Here both artists share a studio in an old byre by the farmhouse.
