Meg Ashley
Meg Ashley is an ex Art and Design Lecturer living on the North Yorkshire coast. Since taking early retirement she has been concentrating on her primary passions of painting and ceramics.
An avid walker, Meg takes her inspiration from the North York Moors and the many delights of the coast. Coming from a textile and technology background she has experimented and produced work using a vast range of materials and techniques, but is now enjoying the simplicity and pleasures of working with clay and paint.
Her ceramics range from whimsical animal figures to large mixed media pieces incorporating found and recycled items. Often her walks will see her returning with pockets full of sea glass, driftwood, pebbles, plants and other interesting finds. These she will make use of in imprinting, mark making or hand building.
Her collection of work is ever changing but will always reflect her love of texture, colour and movement with the unexpected surprise of found treasures.
Meg has exhibited her paintings and ceramics both in this country and in Europe but is now concentrating on galleries, markets and other outlets in the North East. A regular exhibitor at the Staithes Festival, the York River Art Market and Whitby Regatta and Winterfest, Meg enjoys the face to face interaction with customers and visitors.
